Richard Avedon is one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. We conceived and delivered a temporary exhibition, which takes visitors through more than 60 years of his work. Opening in Palazzo Reale in Milan, the displays feature 106 iconic images, drawn from the collection of the Center for Creative Photography and the Richard Avedon Foundation. We published a major catalogue and developed merchandising and retail to accompany the exhibition.
The exhibition explores the unique nature of Avedon’s practice and perspective; his relationships and subjects – from supermodels to the Beatles, Dalai Lama to Truman Capote; how he encouraged models to bring humanity, emotion and narrative to their work; how he celebrated movement, form and texture. And how, through his intimate portraits, the psychology and personalities of his sitters were revealed. A major section of the exhibition focuses on the inspirational collaboration between him and Gianni Versace across almost 20 years.
