Celebrating 150 years since the birth of one of the world’s most popular art movements, a new exhibition bringing together Impressionist masterpieces from Cezanne and Renoir has opened at the Palazzo Reale, Milano. It will run until 30 June 2024 and is expected to draw global crowds.
Fifty-two works from the famous Masters offer an in-depth insight into their working practises and careers, with early canvases from the 1870s as well as mature pieces from the 20th century. The exhibition highlights the deep friendship that grew from these influential artists’ common interests and approaches, and where their styles differed, Renoir’s warm expressiveness contrasting with Cézanne’s analytical precision.
The exhibition is curated by Cécile Girardeau and Stefano Zuffi in collaboration with Alice Marsal. It is supplemented by a publication from Skira Arte and enhanced with an educational program created by Ad Artem, with a dynamic public programme for adults, in collaboration with the Institut Français, exploring dialogues with writers, poets, musicians and politicians.
